Fraudsters Pretend to be Solicitors
We’ve been advised that mortgage lenders are seeing an increasing trend of fraud in the mortgage market. This relates to impersonation of solicitors who are dealing with customer’s conveyancing.
The fraudsters hack into solicitors email accounts and then email the customers (purporting to be solicitor) asking them to pay their deposit into the fraudsters bank account. This usually takes place around completion.
We advise you to telephone your solicitor if you receive an email asking you to make any payment (for instance for your deposit, or solicitors bill) it is always better to check the validity of the request before making the payment.
